Best of the semester - 2

I like to eat a lot of food, especially chocolate. First of all, chocolate is cheap and smells good. Sure enough, it tastes sweet and delicious. Second, eating chocolate makes me happy and relaxed. Hence, when I feel unhappy or furious, I usually buy chocolate and eat it. Third, according to the research, eating chocolate may also make us smarter because chocolate contains various stimulation which increases mental alertness. Eventually, I heard that people eating more cocoa have lower blood pressure than others. Consequently, it is beneficial for me to eat moderate amounts of chocolate. Due to these reasons, I like chocolate very much.

Best of the semester - 1

I want to hire a new English instructor. Now, I receive two resumes from Lynn Whitnall and Debra Fines. After studying their resumes, I decide to hire Debra for the following reasons. First, Debra has more education than Lynn. Debra had studied in three universities, but Lynn had only one. Second, Debra has five different employments; however, Lynn has only three different employments. That is to say, Debra’ employment experience is richer than Lynn. If Debra gets into trouble, maybe he will be able to handle it well. Third, Lynn can speak Spanish, French, and Japanese. Unlike Lynn, Debra can only speak French. Although Lynn can speak more languages than Debra, I put emphasis on English. Last, Debra published a book about English verb tense. On the other hand, Lynn received Excellence in Teaching Award, 2004. Though both of them are outstanding, I think that Debra is suitable for my requirement. Therefore, I choose Debra.

Stanley Manufacturing opened a large factory in Acton last month, and it had some positive effects on the local people. For one thing, people who live there can get more jobs. Thus, the problems of unemployment would decrease. Additionally, the economy would be more prosperous. Therefore, the population would become more diverse. Eventually, the elders and children need not worry that adults would leave hometown to find a job. Also, they can gather together every day. According to these effects, building a large factory in Acton doesn’t necessarily cause negative effects.

If I get married, there will be some effects in my life. First of all, I have to earn more money because family members would increase. In addition, if I have children, I need to take care of them. Therefore, I feel very tired. Finally, I have to be more patient. If I have a fight with my husband, I will try to calm down. Consequently, I can become my children’s good example. If I want to get married, I would consider these effects.

Discussing Cause - 2 - revised

Michael Williams opened a small music store in September. However, his business failed about three months later. After analyzing methods of management, I knew why it closed too quickly. First, the store’s location was remote; moreover, it was three miles away from a shopping center that had two large music stores. Second, most of the CDs in the store were hip-hop and rock. However, the residents there were old. Thus, these CDs were not attractive to the residents. Third, the store was open Monday to Friday from one to five p.m. Nevertheless, few people walked past the store at that time. Eventually, Mr. Williams would not accept checks or credit cards. It was inconvenient for some people to buy CDs. According to these reasons above, no wonder why Mr. Williams closed his store rapidly.

This area has a huge increase in population over the past one hundred and fifty years. According to the following reasons, we can know what causes the population increase. First of all, we advanced in medicine and health care, so people’s life spans are longer and longer. Another reason is that we improve farming methods that produce more and better food. Thus, we don’t have to worry about hunger. Most importantly, there are fewer infant deaths and more people living longer. This reason results in that fertility is more than mortality. After I bring these reasons, we can know why the population of this area increases rapidly.

Expressing an Opinion - 2 - revised

We have to wear uniforms when we go to school to study. However, this rule causes many students' arguments. Some students agree with wearing uniforms, but others don’t. In my opinion, I am in favor of wearing uniforms. First, we don’t have to trouble what we should wear tomorrow. It helps us save a lot of time to think about that. Second, when we wear uniforms, we would pay attention to our behaviors. If we do bad things, the passengers can recognize the school which we study and inform our school. Finally, a guard in the school can know easily if there is a stranger going into the school. Therefore, it can reduce risks when we are in the school. Although some students insist that wearing uniforms be uncomfortable and wastes money, I think wearing uniforms can reduce troubles and save more money to buy other clothes. It is for all the above-mentioned reasons that I believe wearing uniforms is the best choice for us.
